Closing the bones postpartum ritual
Closing the bones postpartum ritual is the most wonderful gift to treat yourself to after the birth of your baby. It is a ritual filled with tenderness and support, celebrating the beginning of a new journey of motherhood. The support known as cocooning in Estonian has many different names elsewhere, including a closing ceremony, a mother's warming ceremony, and a motherhood ceremony.
Closing the bones ritual is a deeply healing tradition that celebrates the end of one journey and the beginning of another. It supports a woman's recovery after becoming a mother on many different levels. Physically, closing ceremony helps restore balance in the body, supports uterine contractions, and increases blood flow. Emotionally, closing the bones is a grounding and calming practice that helps release the tension accumulated during pregnancy and childbirth, and provides an opportunity for the soul to heal in moments of silence and peace. Spiritually, childbirth is seen as a woman's opening up to another world to receive her child - the ritual helps close the door between worlds and safely return a woman to her center.
The care consists of several different practices, all of which support the mother. I pamper you with plants, sounds and warmth, I rock, caress and swaddle you like a newborn baby, because the needs of a mother and baby are often very similar.
During the 5-hour support, I offer my full commitment:
- With your help, I will select spices to make a warming postpartum drink
- I will help you to gently and softly unravel your birth experience or any other journey that needs support
- I will create a safe environment and listen to your body – what does it have to say about its experiences?
- I will prepare a relaxing flower bath for the whole body or just the feet to celebrate your journey
- I will rock you into deep relaxation with rebozo scarves
- I will pamper you with the power of plants, offering a special herbal bag massage
- I will support postpartum recovery with a rich oil belly massage
- I will wrap you in a supportive cocoon using 9 sheets, symbolizing the 9 months of pregnancy. I will give you time to heal and then be reborn, fly, and flourish.
When?
- Postpartum care is suitable for women who have given birth at least 2 weeks ago (longer in the case of a cesarean section).
- Postpartum care is suitable for women who have given birth many years ago.
- Postpartum care is suitable for women who need support in closing a completely different journey, e.g., miscarriage, end of the breastfeeding, or leaving a relationship.
Where?
I will provide closing the bones ritual at your home so that you can receive my support as comfortably as possible. It would be nice if someone could be with your baby during this time and bring the baby to you for feedings and for moments when you miss your baby.
